Following weeks of suspense, plots and sabotage, The Celebrity Traitors has reached a thrilling end

Over the course of the show, audiences saw murders, betrayals, serious side-eye, and an unforgettable incident that pierced the overwhelming suspense.

Yet on the final evening, the final winner of the inaugural celebrity edition was revealed.

Out of nineteen participants, only five remained: Traitors and faithfuls competing for the winnings.

Soon, the field narrowed to only three contenders: the final players.

Ultimately, comedian Alan Carr was crowned the champion, in a shocking result that went viral and left him emotional.

"It's been tearing me apart, I'm so sorry," he exclaimed, admitting to the remaining faithfuls that he was actually a traitor. "I'm an awful human being."

"You played amazingly," they comforted him. "Everything's fine."

Social media quickly erupted with the news. "Most awful traitor ever being the most effective player," commented a viewer.

"It couldn't have been a better conclusion," stated another, while someone else called it "the television highlight of the year."

The organization he selected, a cancer charity, will receive all the prize money, with the total amount reaching eighty-seven thousand five hundred pounds.

Alan Carr's transformation from comic relief to strategic player was among the most memorable aspects of the series.

However, his victory still left the nation in shock, according to entertainment reporters.

"The idea of Alan, of all people, executing a masterclass in deception felt about as likely as him keeping a straight face through one of his own punchlines."

During follow-up conversations, fellow players summed up the reasons nobody had truly doubted him.

"He might have appeared to breakfast in traitor attire and I wouldn't have believed he was deceiving us. I was too busy laughing," a player said.

"The majority didn't vote for him because how can you eliminate someone who is so charming?" asked a different contestant.

The winner stated he had "thoroughly enjoyed" his time on the program.

The final installment was lengthened to 70 minutes on the network. There was a different start than typical episodes, as every celebrity were aware who'd make it at the breakfast table.

Viewers heard some very uplifting, and very un-Traitors-esque soundtrack, as we recapped key scenes from each of the finalists' experience in the game.

True to form, Alan Carr gave us unforgettable quotes.

"To be honest, I started the competition a bit of an anxious mess. I've betrayed close allies under the bus, I've eliminated beloved figures openly. Apparently I'm a better liar and player than I thought."

At the same time, a different player commented that being in the final was "way more stressful than competing with a national team", while another said he was "totally surprised" to have made it so far.

Early on in the episode, several players seemed to be making a bid to become the new style icon of the competition, taking over from an earlier departed style leader.

Carr emerged at the morning meal looking like a vintage television personality in patterned burgundy attire, before changing into a bejewelled white suit.

However, he got outstyled by a fellow player's maroon velvet tuxedo. Impressive style.

Next up was the challenge, with the remaining contestants getting on board a train named - naturally - The Deceivers' Railway.

The challenge saw them destroying images of eliminated players. Have sympathy for a player who managed to get hit on the head THREE times by the lid of a substantial container.

Soon after, the moment arrived for the roundtable.

Two traitors made a pact in advance, vowing to stick together. "We've come a long way, I won't betray him," stated a player, while their partner just giggled.

And one did stick to their agreement. Yet, managing to stay under the radar for the majority of the competition, the other still received the majority elimination votes.

The last deceiver looked like to be experiencing significant distress to be the final deceiver remaining. "Being alone, I feel terrified," he said. "I'm a loose cannon, without direction."

Online platforms and onlookers were equally disappointed.

"I did NOT want this contestant to be eliminated. A truly loveable traitor," said a commentator.

"Your legacy will remain in the show's legacy," posted a different viewer.

But there was little opportunity to dwell on their elimination. Before long, the game reached the endgame - which was what we were really all here for.

The last players stood over the fire pit. And the alliance broke down, precisely when it was most crucial, in a truly WTF moment.

A player was painfully banished - following a surprising decision from their partner, who betrayed them.

"It hurts to be betrayed last minute like that," said the ousted contestant. Subsequently, we learned that if they ever communicate, the betrayed player calls their former ally as a traitor.

Finally, just three players were still competing: the final trio.

A contestant, looking incredibly smug, voted to end the competition. So did another, and it all came down to the final participant, who made the identical choice - which meant that the traitor emerged victorious.

According to commentators, the scene where remaining contestants consoled the winner was "beautiful TV". "I predict it will be a contender for outstanding scene at television honors," they said.

Happily, the champion soon recovered from his emotional outburst, and was able to enjoy his victory.

"What a rollercoaster. I thought I was terrible at deception, my expressions gave me away and now I stand a winner," the winner said.

And he even joked about the memorable elimination - his best friend in an early episode - by reaching over the presenter in the final scene and making contact.

"There's something on your face," he said, with his characteristic laugh.

The last few weeks of celebrity gossiping, plotting and sometimes surprising incidents may seem like a bizarre fantasy. Yet it actually all happen. And we will miss it.
